SKIN ALLERGIES
We treat all types of skin-related allergies including contact dermatitis and urticaria ('hives').
Urticaria is a very common disorder which presents with skin rashes lasting for few hours in a day with intense itching.
Urticaria is traditionally classified into acute and chronic. When urticaria is present daily or almost daily for less than 6 weeks it is called acute. If it occurs continuously on most days for longer than this, it is called chronic.
Age, race, sex, occupation, geographic location, and season of the year can be implicated in urticaria. There have been many reports of an association between urticaria and thyroid. Other associations are chronic infections, especially dental, bowel infections, H. pylori infection of the stomach, upper respiratory tract viral infection and malignancy. The role of food in causing allergy is very minimal. The culprit are the food additives in the canned food. Other foods are fish, nuts, peanuts, milk, egg etc.
Cows milk allergy is the commonest cause of urticaria in infants under 6 months old.
Even vibration, heat, sun, cold, and water can cause urticaria.
Most cases of contact dermatitis aren't actually caused by true allergies, but irritants. Clinically, both might look identical but the history often gives us valuable clues.
Whether you have an allergic or irritant contact dermatitis, we can certainly offer effective treatment, usually starting on the day of your first consultation.
